Thank you to the more than 300 generous alumni who have together given £2.5m to the Ann's Court North project. When added to Selwyn College reserves of £1.5 million, the project has now reached its £4m target for the renovation and just been given planning permission.

The renovation, covering the hostels at 21 and 23 West Road, has drawn support from alumni and friends of Selwyn College. The work will bring a major environmental upgrade to the 20 student rooms including new windows incorporating high performance double glazing, roof and underfloor insulation, and, in a second phase,  adding in air source heat pumps. A new accessible room will also be created, with a specially designed kitchen, bathroom and bedroom.

The two hostels will be linked by a new entrance pavilion, providing the main entrance and exit directly from Ann's Court, along with two informal study areas for all students. The exteriors will be restored, underlining Selwyn College’s commitment to preserving the heritage of the local area.

This is an important step in a project that has been years in the making, bringing the whole of Ann's Court close to completion with existing accommodation, offices and the new library and auditorium developed over recent years.

The Master, Suzanne Raine, said: “It will be wonderful to restore these two villas, tying them together with an accessible entrance facing into Ann's Court.  It will make a real difference to the students and Fellows who live and work there. Thank you to everyone who has supported this project.”

Work is expected to begin in summer 2027.
